About cats

Since they have become a companion highly appreciated by humans, cats have settled their place in the heart and home of their human friend. With all her independence and personality. But making small concessions. Very small. The cat is very volunteer and does nothing but what she wants. Unlike the dog, who is waiting for something to want owner. Execute immediately.

By its constitution, the cat is clawed. From the time he lived in the wilderness and the valley. But the claws are growing all the time. In thin layers, from the inside to the outside. The last layer, when it is no longer “alive”, is removed. It is not tainted and it is left in the cat’s actions in the natural environment. When climbing, fighting, hunting, marks the territory.

Domesticity, she also uses claws. To hunt and to defend itself when needed. Some people advise us to cut them down every month. I personally disagree. Especially because there are other solutions.

What the experts did?

The domestic cat, living with a man, does not have the opportunity to wear their nails to the extent they grow. Consequently, it needs to be helped.

If you do not want furniture, sofa or carpet to be “worked” by your cat, give it a little better.

Experts, studying the cat, created a series of special objects to sharpening the claws.

They are experts in cat’s health and behavior. They realized the cat had the ability to detach the dead layer of the claw.

A small plate (10x40cm) is worn in a durable material. This can be fixed vertically or horizontally (depending on the cat’s preferences).

If you want a more “luxurious” version, there are many variations.

Even if they seem too expensive, think that furniture, sofa or carpet are much more expensive. The cat will not give up his manicure and pedicure. Pay close attention to this ritual.

My point is to leave the cat as God created it, with her ancestral habits. I’m coming back, saying it’s not appropriate to cut her claws. They can be allowed to grow naturally. Provided you leave the cat special objects created by experts to sharpen the claws.

Natural materials

The cat comes from the wild and has kept almost all her instincts intact. That is why the objects and materials used for its care must be natural, very similar to their natural environment of origin.

For example, absorbent sand is similar to earth. The cat can carry out its activity almost as if in nature. Hide from enemies, “production” of it.

Scratch-resistant objects must also be of natural materials. Wood is the one in nature, where it has been practicing generation after generation, the sharpening of claws. The natural sisal draws the cat, so she will scratch with great pleasure. Your furniture, your carpets, or your sofas will escape intact.

I have many cats, I have experienced many models for a climb and scratched. More details you see in my post here.

Obviously, they are degraded over time and new ones are needed. But with less expense than changing sofas, carpets, furniture.

Reading this post I hope you understand the cat’s need to scratch. She does not want to be destructive, she just meets her need to climb and scratch.

For an indoor cat, this particular furniture is ideal.

Please leave me a comment and tell me about your experiences.

I’m a big cat loving, since the young baby.   My mother was great loving cats, grandmother as well.   My daughter is coming to the end. My daughter loves cats so much that she makes a second faculty: veterinary medicine.   Four generations, what do you think?

  1. Some interesting and useful advice to stop your kitty from scratching on and ruining your furniture.

I love the lato, because this will look nice in any home and like part of the furniture. The Marvin has a more cat-like look to it, and it definitely doesn’t look like human furniture.

I never realized that cats were so attracted to sisal wood, so I am sure there must be endless options here. My friend had a sisal pole of wood that hew put sandpaper onto for her cat and this seemed to also do the trick.

  2. This post made me remember a time I and my neighbour went on a day picnic with others and on our way back, I helped her with loads to her apartment only to get there and meet her cat tearing through her cushions. She looked like she was enjoying herself but my neighbour took it the wrong way and claimed it was enough. She sold her the following week. How I wished she had access to this post earlier, maybe her friend would still be seating somewhere closer to her, playing now.

  3. thanks for comment Michel;I’m glad you loved Late; it really harmonizes in every house; I love cats so much that I have in my house all kind of models; I have many cats lol

  4. Thank you for your comment; Unfortunately, your neighbor does not believe he really loves cats, he might be interested; he does not even know them, better to sell the cat; it’s just my opinion of course

  5. One of my close high school friends owns a cat and their furniture is unbothered. Spotless. I always catch her playing with that scratching post; they actually have a huge PurrfectPost.

I highly recommend investing in one of these for cat owners, maybe even dog owners who have dogs that like to claw on things, too. I’m not sure if they’re effective for dogs, though. Do you know?

  6. thanks for posting Andre; I know dogs are totally different from cats; they like to run outside; however, they must take a walk of at least two times a day; so they clutch their claws running; sisal are only for cats if they stay only in the house; I have dogs, not just cats

  7. Yes I use to have a cat who would scratch and claw at any and everything. It would have been nice to know about this information to see if she would have gone after it, instead of the furniture in the house. It really would save on expenses the overall expense.

  8. Thank you for all your wonderful suggestions! Being a cat owner myself, I know that pretty much no matter what you do, they are going to exercise their need to scratch. I have been putting off getting new furniture due to my cat’s scratching habits. I love the various cat furniture additions you have previewed; I could definitely find one that will complement my home. Now if I could only find a cure for kids and furniture hah. Thanks again!

  9. My cat, Mittens, loves to use the doors in my house to stretch and dig in her claws. She also has a favorite couch that she has all but destroyed. I have never had a cat that scratched at things as much as this cat does!

The Lato seems like it would be very effective in giving her a set place to dig her nails into, but how do I get her to stop scratching all the other areas especially the doors in my house?

The towers also seem like good options as she loves to climb up everywhere—even the hood vent on our stove!

Mittens is a great cat and I wouldn’t trade her for the world! Thanks for these suggestions!

    Best wishes,
    Karin 😁

  10. Cat shouldn’t be tame completely. Their claws has its purpose. Cat will always be like cat. It is only dog that can earn instructions and do what its rearer want. My friend love cat as a pet and she used to complain how her furnitures are suffering from cats’ action. She should taken normal precautions had it been she knows about cats attraction to sisal wood. This post is useful and I make more useful by informing her about this product. At least it would save me from her frequent complaint about her pet. Although, my cat as not grow to the extent of scratching my furniture.

    Thanks for this review.

  11. Thank you for your comment Karin; I know very well the cat’s habits, curious and climbing; well, you could put the doors with lemon juice, the cats hate the smell of lemon; but you must first provide a sisal

  12. Thank you for your comment Shannon; it is normal to scratch cats; if you want to stay your house intact, the solution is to take your cat a sisal; long term is infinitely cheaper

  13. Thank you for your comment Cliff; your cat will use sisal because it is attracted to this natural material; you can first try with a small plate wrapped in natural sisal

  14. Thank you for your comment Stella; you can make a gift to your friend a sisal and after her cat will use it will surely no longer cry

  15. Thanks for the reply, Carmen! I appreciate it. I will look at the Sisal and then try the lemon juice if that doesn’t work.

    Best wishes,
    Karin ?

  16. Thanks for some great tips to keep your cats from ruining your furniture. Do they naturally go for these scratching objects, like the Lato or the Marvin, or do you have to train them to do so? Like, if you place one of these in the living room, they will instantly give up scratching your couch and take it all out on the Lato? I don’t have a cat myself, but look after the neighbors cat now and then, and they have invested in a product similiar to the Marvin. And amazingly, the couch is fine over there. Cats are lovely creatures, would rather have a cat than a dog. They also pretty much look after themselves. Unlike dogs, you have to take them for a walk several times a day, and could be a larger issue to get someone to look after if you are going away for a few days.
