Kitten, welcome

After a long analysis, under the pressure of the family (children, mother, grandmother, husband, wife), or you want a cat, you convinced to adopt a cat. The day you will meet the new family member will be a special one. Both for you and the cat. And it’s not hard to tell Kitten, welcome.

It is best to take it at the age of three months. At this age, she prepared for the trials of life, by her mother. After three months, you can adopt a cat at any time. It is preferable to take it from a shelter. Those in shelters need a lot of love and a better life. They will overwhelm you with their love. You can also get a cat on the street. In this way, you will extend his life.

By caring for her and giving her your love, she rewards you, loving you unconditionally. For the kitten moving to a new home involves a certain degree of stress. But if she is welcome, you can say Kitten, welcome. She will certainly understand.

Preamble

To adapt to the new home it is good to bring it home early in the morning. It is preferable in a carrier, it will feel safer. Thus, the kitten will have enough time to accommodate. She will carefully inspect every corner of the house.

It is not necessary to make the first contact with each member of the family. It is preferable to let it rest for several hours. The kitten has to get used to the atmosphere in the house. She must understand that no one poses a threat to her.

Such an attitude will help her establish her place.

To perceive the whole family as a community with a well-defined hierarchy. As long as no one pays any attention to her, she will not know whether there is a leader of the group.

The first guidelines show the cat, right from the beginning, where the water and food vessel is.

These should placed in a place where the cat can have a free path at any time of the day. Ideally, you should interested in what kind of food fed by its previous owners. Give him the same kind of food.

Also inform yourself in advance which is the ideal quantity to fed, depending on race, age and weight. Next to the special cat food, you can lure it with a little fish. It is possible to face the situation in which the previous owners offered him food prepared in the house. In this case, you have to be patient for a while.

The cat gets used to her food that contains all the nutrients she needs. After eating, praise and cat kitten.

Try to spend as much time relaxing and playing with her.

Also, from the beginning, you must show them where the litter box located.

It is best to place it in a remote but accessible place, for example, in the bathroom. You need to provide privacy when the cat uses litter.

I hope you think about her health too. For this you must grow the cat’s grass and make it available to her.

After the cat has adapted to her new home

You can go for a walk with your cat. Each time the route chosen increases more and more. The cat needs to move. And important is that she spends as much time in the owners’ company.

But do not forget: it is a cat and can be unpredictable. Never walk around without a harness if you want to keep it. Otherwise, the risk is very high to lose

During winter or autumn, when the rainy days and bad weather make you sit at the “mouth of the stove” and read a good book or watch TV, the biggest pleasure of your cat will be to calm down on your lap.

If, you have children, even very young, do not worry. The cat will take care of them, play with them. Almost any cat breed is part of your cat, she will love children. And cats without pedigrees are loving too.. And the child will grow up being more responsible, more empathetic. She won’t be selfish. Especially if you are the only child the risk of becoming selfish is very high.

The need for a cat rest

The little feline is always playing. But you must not forget that no matter how lively it is, it also needs rest. When you notice that because for the most part it is becoming less and less active, take it to its place and let it rest. You have to notice what her favorite corner is in the house. Surely, for most cats, it will be wherever you are. It would be preferable, however, to have an area where you can never bothered.

If, you do not want to share the bed with the kitten, then from the first days insist that none of the family members allow it to accessed on the bed or pillow. That is impossible to me. If, you are unwell. It known that cats are excellent therapists. But for that, he has to get in touch with you.

In any case, the cat should not disturb when resting. Not when she eats. Not even when washing.

The most difficult thing

It seems that the most difficult thing is to get the cat to stay at home alone when you go to work.

As a safety measure, it collects from its path everything that could damage. Clothing, shoes, or any other object that could transform into toys. Instead, leave them with various cat-specific accessories: scratches, bells. The cat will delight with them while you are away from home.

In time, you will get used to waiting for you to come home.

Ideally, you should adopt at least two cats. During your absence from home, they will keep each other company

Remember: the cat is a member of the family. It is appropriate to treat her with love and respect.

From my experience

Fortunately, everyone in my family loves cats. Over time, I learned a lot about them. First of all, I found out how much love you give him, so you will receive it in return. And unconditional. Provided you treat them properly, that is, as a family member.

Cats force you to order and clean. Otherwise, I will be a disaster in the house lo

I was lucky enough to work at home, so my cats didn’t suffer because I went to work. We had short trips, practically insensible.

Instead, they “worked” with me. They were rolling on the keyboard of the computer, they were leaning. But I was less stressed than I was without cats. And I didn’t have any lol.

Shortly after I started raising cats, I renovated my house after their queues. The house became more airy, tidier and easier to clean.

Conclusion

If, you decide to take a cat, you will find that it is one of the best choices of your life.

You need to be patient at first until the cat adapts. After this phase, the cat makes his chews and does not leave him out of the daily routine.

Instead, she will invoke you with her unconditional love. It is a very pleasant pet and does not need too much care. A dog requires much more time (I have dogs too!). It is ideal for those who live in the block. But do not forget: you are responsible for her health and life.

I would be happy to leave a comment and share your experience with cats.

I’m a big cat loving, since the young baby.   My mother was great loving cats, grandmother as well.   My daughter is coming to the end. My daughter loves cats so much that she makes a second faculty: veterinary medicine.   Four generations, what do you think?

You can now learn to communicate directly with your cat.

  1. Hi Carmen,

This is a very helpful post for someone who would like to adopt a cat. I don’t have any pets, but I do enjoy watching videos of these pets. I actually always wondered how a pet or cat would adapt to a new life with an owner. I’m a little bit frightened of cats, because I don’t know how they will behave and they just stare at me. However, your article is very helpful, thank you.

    1. Hello

Thanks for the comment and appreciation. Cats like gentleness. They don’t have to scare you when they look you in the eyes. They are only direct when they do this.

  2. I am looking to adopt another cat. Just looking to add another member to my family. Thank you for the tips. I will make sure that the  kitten is at least 3 months old 🙂 I never had to consider any of these with my Snow Snow, he  is from my parents and he is such an easy going cat. I am sure the new baby will be fine now that i am prepared. Thanks to your post!

  3. Hi there,

Very helpful article, I loved the reading!

I found my cat in the street. She was two months, and from the moment we adopted her, we felt in love with her. My children are crazy about her. She is like a real human. The funny thing is that she doesn’t drink from still water, only from fountains or tap. So when she wants to drink, she stands in front of the bathroom door. And when she wants to do her business, she stands in front of the window or the door. She is a funny cat. She sleeps with me all the time. I couldn’t even imagine her sleeping somewhere else. I need her more than she needs me:).
You mentioned in the article that cats are good for people that have problems with the heath. Can you tell me the reason? Or maybe you have an article about this subject?
Thank you for this excellent post!

  4. Cats are wonderful and very individual creatures. There seem to be all kinds of different personality types, and it’s funny to watch the same cat have very different interactions with different people. My own cats have been very different in terms of activity and personality, but they are each one of our biggest treasures in life. It’s lots of great fun to have a cat around!

    1. Thank you for your comment. Yes, cats really act differently from different people, even the same cat. Throughout my life I have watched my cats react to those who have trampled my house. If I interpreted their reaction as negative, I avoided those people.

  5. Thanks for this information! There are many things to be mindful of when introducing a new kitten to your home. It takes time to make them feel safe and confident walking around but it is important to give them that time. I recently introduced our new kitten to our 1 yr old cat. We were very worried about it not going well so we took it slow and introduced them for short periods between a door. We then moved to quick play sessions. We eventually got them together full-time and they have been inseparable every since. Thanks again for sharing!

  6. I love cats! As you said, they need time to adapt. They’re more independent than dogs, but they need attention nonetheless. They can be unpredictable. One time it scratched me out of the blue lol.

Cats are part of the family and need to be treated with love and respect. However, we must keep in mind they’re still animals. Many people want to treat them as humans, which is a no-no.

How many cats do you have? What breed? I’m curious. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thank you for your comment. Cats should be considered cats. Even if you love them a lot. You have to respect their independence and personality. Now I have 17 cats. They are not a breed. They are saved from various circumstances. Some of them were born in the house.

  7. Hey, I enjoy a lot while reading your article and find it very useful for everyone like me. Everyone in my family loves cats. Over time, I learned a lot about them. First of all, I found out how much love we give him, so we will receive it in return. And unconditional. I am lucky enough to work at home, so my cats didn’t suffer because I went to work.

  8. Hi, it is a great and nice feeling to know that someone will create a great website like this and also create a write up on an article like this. Cats as our pets are of great help especially in our health. My cat was always shy for the first 2 months and she was always hiding. Now there is more. Connection

    1. Thank you for your comment. I personally have dogs, but I love cats more. So I didn’t write about dogs and I don’t think I’ll write. But I can write more about cats, because I have been growing them for over 34 years.

  10. Thank you for such a wonderful post. It is truly an amazing feeling when you get an animal from the shelter knowing you are giving it a better home.

I personally get any animal we own from the shelter because of that reason. Recently we picked up an 8-month-old female kitten that was abandoned in an empty home.

At first, she was skeptical and skittish in our home, which is understandable considering what happened, but now she is one of the best and loving animals I have ever owned.

Thank you again for a wonderful post and I look forward to reading more from you in the future!

    1. Thanks for the comment. I liked the fact that you adopted an abandoned cat. She has no fault that the former owners are irresponsible. I am glad to find that your house has found its peace.

  11. Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed this one. And I learned a couple of things, too. By the way, I love the thoughtfulness of suggesting picking up cats from the shelter. Those ones truly crave love.

Also, I’m a big fan of the notion of at least two cats. I imagine they are way happier that way. And while that definitely applies to being better off during the owner’s absence, I feel it’s also a huge difference just in general. I remember this one couple who when adopted took two (not sure if they were siblings but young ones, likely, as you said, about 3 months old) and they were the happiest things I’ve seen. I feel you can’t even remotely compare them to the typical one cat somewhat bored to death cause the kid who wanted a cat so bad is now occupied with 8-10 hours/day gaming and thus, wants no part in playing or spending time with him/her anymore. Sad.

To that extent, I feel many lack the awareness that it’s a real, feeling being. And many parents are naive enough to not realize their kid’s capricious whim before actually getting one. Which sadly is in direct correlation with the cat being miserable and having a rather meaningless life.

Though this is not the ideal scenario, I feel having two cats kind of balances it out. They’re overall way happier even if paid little to no attention to.

    1. Thank you for your comment. There are indeed many parents who believe that they protect their child and give up the cat when he is born. Totally wrong, both for the baby and the cat. My first cat was 2 years older than my daughter. She never stepped on the girl’s clothes. She would call me when the child was crying. In general, the cat took great care of her. They had a nice time together.
