The stress of your cat

To feel in control, cats will carefully mark their home with “happy messages” (or pheromones). This happens every time a cat rubs its face with your furniture or feet. Many things can disrupt your cat’s need for stability and can lead to stress.

Any change in your routine can lead the stress of your cat.

For example, every time you move your furniture, bring new furniture, make a major home cleaning, renovate your home, do homework, etc., this can eliminate the “happy messages” left by your cat. She didn’t feel at home. The stress of your cat will be imminent.

A kind of introduction

One way to determine if your cat stressed is to look at a situation from his point of view. While the presence of a guest could be a joy for the owner, for the cat it is a new smell, a new person and a disturbance of the routine. She’ll hide.

Other common causes of stress in cats include new pets, newborns, home remodeling, storms.

If you have more cats and don’t understand each other, this is also a major source of stress for cats.

Cats manifest stress in different ways. May have problems with the skin, bladder and / or gastrointestinal tract. They can also urinate outside the litter box. I can vocalize excessively through grunting or hissing. They can be aggressive with humans or other animals. Or they may be obsessive toilets. One thing you can do is to minimize the exposure of the animal to unpleasant circumstances. Below I will give some examples and the solution so that your cat does not feel stressed.

1 Strident music

The cat sleeps peacefully in the armchair or on the couch. You or another family member like a “real” rock. The speakers explode and harm the sleepy cat. She jumps up, lands on the muzzle and runs away in terror. It hidden at the far end of the house. Experts say cats are deeply disturbed by loud noises.

They have a special acoustic sensitivity.

Solutions:

Give the volume slower. Get music lovers to use audio headphones. Opt for jazz or classical music. These genres are better tolerated by cats due to their melodic fluidity. When leaving home, do not leave the radio on. Advertisements broadcast stress cats. They sleep for hours when left alone in the house during the day.

2. Restless sleep

No one likes to disturbed by sleep. Cats are no exception. Sleep is the preferred way to spend time. Cats sleep during the day. If the owners have a restful sleep, the cats will not forgive them easily. The punishments are cruel.

But we must understand them. It’s as if in the sweetest dreams, someone would wake us up, rhythmically jumping on the mattress. Cats crouch on their feet, usually coming out from under the blanket or blanket. They bite your fingers.

Another cause of this behavior is the attraction that cats have towards any movement.

Solutions:

Sleep only on your back, in the “upright” position. Protects your toes with thick socks. If you do not think it is a realistic solution, arrange a sleeping place for the cat. Leave the door open in case he wants to leave the room. Fortunately, if you have a restful sleep, many cats will get rid of your company. They will look for another place to sleep.

3. Screams and howls

Violent quarrels are a stressful cause for cats. Calm and calculated beings, they do not support the tumultuous disputes between spouses. And neither the moral applied by the parents to their offspring. In such situations they start by feeling depressed, not knowing what is going on.

Then they become interested in the agitation created. They end by running away in frightening places. Cats love the sweet daily routine and avoid confrontations as much as possible, leaving the “battlefield”.

Solutions:

Solve problems in a civilized way without raising the tone. Don’t let yourself angered. If necessary, you can call a psychiatrist for the good of the family members. Of course, the cats included here.

4. Super stressed people

Even when we are not visible, in a certain way, cats immediately feel if we are happy, sad, upset or disappointed. Because of this quality, behavioral specialists called them “four-legged emotional barometers”. They are experts at deciphering body language: when we stressed the muscles are tense, the body’s body is rigid, and the pupils dilated. All these signs are elements of discomfort for cats. They are the most relaxed pets.

Solutions:

Try to reconcile yourself with the thought that you cannot control your whole life. Enjoy most of the successes and happy moments of your daily life. After you return from work try to spend at least a few minutes with your cat. Play with her and talk to her.

Even if he does not understand what you are saying, the tone of his voice will tell him if you upset or tired. The more time you spend with your little friend, the easier you will forget about your daily worries. Researchers have shown that cats are experts at eliminating stress.

Those who enjoy the company of little felines find their inner balance and peace of mind much easier. If you manage to “leave” your problems at work, your cat will be quieter with a stressed keeper.

5. Dirty litter

Imagine an apartment with an extremely dirty bathroom. Or a toilet in a public place, unclean, unhygienic. In such a place all you can hope for is to be able to hold your breath until you leave the area.

The same feeling experienced by cats that have a dirty litter. This negligence on our part is an important stress factor for our cats.

Solutions:

The litter should cleaned once or twice daily. If more cats live in the house, each one must have his litter box. Don’t forget to fill in the sand as many times as needed and replace it once a week.

6. Eating irregularly

The alarm clock rings at six in the morning. Do not indulge yourself to get out of bed. After five minutes the cat begins to feel impatient. If 15 minutes pass and you have not yet given him food, you will have to deal with an angry cat.

The cat is a regular animal. The meal is one of the most important moments of the day. If you learned it with morning meals, but for different reasons, neglected after a while this routine, you will have a very angry cat!

Solutions:

Try to follow the cat’s feeding schedule. Depending on your free time you have chosen such a program. When you can’t be home at the right time, call a friend or relative to follow the dietary routine of your beloved cat. You can leave them dry food at your disposal.

7. Carrier, car, clinic

These are the main reasons for stress for any cat to examined by a veterinarian. At the sight of the carrier, many cats run away disoriented through the house. Travel with a means of transport is a real ordeal. The whole adventure ends with a terrifying little feline in the medical office tired of dogs barking noisy and aggressive cats.

Solutions:

Purchase the right type of carrier for your psyche. He must be spacious enough. Provide good ventilation and have a large and comfortable cushion. Let the cat investigate the carrier. Let her fully settle in with him.

When transporting by car,

put on jazz or classical music at a moderate volume. Avoid sudden braking. If you have more cats and only one needs medical care, do not hesitate to take them all. Emotional support is especially important at such times.

8. Badly raised children

Some children, under the age of 10, seem extremely determined to run away from cats, to bite and torment cats. In the best case, it limited to knowing them with hugs as possessive, so undesirable for any cat.

Solutions:

Any cat assaulted by young children needs an alternative escape routine. And an area inaccessible to children.

After they have grown up, children can taught some basic rules: “Let the cat come to you to eat it and play with it”; “Do not disturb the cat when he is sleeping, eating or washing.”

9. Another cat or dog

Everything is wonderful until one day you come home with another cat or, worse, a dog. The fact that you have to share the house with another animal is enough to stress many cats.

Solutions:

Let the two animals know each other through the sense of smell. The accommodation process begins with the help of a carp.

You pass it on everyone’s fur, to get used to the smell. Restrict access to two separate rooms and, after a few days, let them watch from a distance.

Cats are animals with a developed sense of ownership. You do not have to force them to share their toys, food bowl or litter box.

10. Love with the other

This is one of the worst sins that can committed against cats. Once you get home, people begin to run away from their cat to embrace it. The outcome? The cat runs in all directions, frustrating her human friends already tired after the workday.

Solutions:

The love of being alone can get you emotionally away from your cat. Try to borrow something from their behavior: pretend you don’t care. Thus, cats will try to capture your attention and gain your affection.

Conclusions

To avoid any emotional break between you and your cat, be careful not to make mistakes. They give you a look of reproach or contempt when it happens. Not to mention, cats immediately understand when they bothered by something or someone.

Violation of the cat code never remains unsanctioned. Little cats are direct beings that do not hide their feelings and do not overlook the mistakes of their owners. In the best case tolerate them.

If you want to have a healthy and loving cat, avoid situations where she feels stressed. But, if such situations occur, apply the solutions suggested in the article.

I would be happy to leave a comment describing your experience when the cat-faced a stressful situation and how he overcame it. Thanks.

I’m a big cat loving, since the young baby.   My mother was great loving cats, grandmother as well.   My daughter is coming to the end. My daughter loves cats so much that she makes a second faculty: veterinary medicine.   Four generations, what do you think?

You can now learn to communicate directly with your cat.

  1. It’s good to read about cats and stress, because people tend to forget that cats are easily stressed out bye changes in the household. So I love to read about their hormones and how to solve it. I am going to bookmark your site , so I can keep on reading more about cats, as I have 4 cats !

  2. Hello, I really want to first appreciate your effort in putting this great website together and writing this article.  It can really be demanding to try to detect every stress that your cat goes through. Even after months I still couldn’t understand my cat very well. She seemed shy and was always hiding in places where I couldn’t find her. Thanks for this post

  3. Hello there, thanks lot I really like your website and this article………..Stress and anxiety can have debilitating effects on a human’s health. Stress in cats acts much the same way. Not only can it exacerbate existing physical conditions, but it can lead to a number of problems often considered behavioral, such as litter box avoidance, aggressive behavior, or depression.

    Thanks……… Regards,

    Feji

    1. Thank you for your comment. Stress manifests differently from individual to individual, be it man or cat. But for the cat the responsibility is ours, so we must take care to avoid situations that induce stress on the cat.

  4. I have to be honest I am really not a cat person!  That said if I was I would be very interested in what you have posted here.

This is a comprehensive treatise on cat wellbeing and well done you for pulling this great breadth of material together to provide something of a 1 stop shop for cat owners.

If I stayed on here any longer you might turn me into a cat person………probably not going to happen, my Fox Terrier might find his nose out of joint.

    Great post thanks

  5. I enjoyed this article and recognize several things in our cat.  I have a question.  When young, our cat was essentially ferrell.  Over time she learned to love living indoors and to crave attention.  However, we still see signs of the hard life she lived when young. Does you article apply to cats who had wild type first year or so?

    1. Thank you for your comment. If the cat has had an unpleasant experience in his youth, he can remain with his whole life. I have more cats. One of them has been with me for 9 years and I couldn’t get my hands on her. She was about 2-3 months old when I took her. I don’t know what experience he had, but people are afraid. I understood it and admired it from afar. If she is happy (and she is!) We are happy. Instead, he has a good friend, one of my tomcat

  6. If you’ve ever had a feeling of complete powerlessness because you didn’t know how to calm your troubled cat, you’re not a lonely case. Many owners resort to a variety of literature and alternative solutions when they realize their pets are starting to change. Yes, cats are social beings, but sometimes their wild origins come to the fore and chronic conditions that are difficult for the household to cope with.

    1. Thank you for your comment. Cats are actually gentle and loving if you understand and respect their personality.
You need a lot of patience with them but you are rewarded with unconditional love.

  7. Cats are a unique pet to have, No two are alike. I have owned two cats in my adult life. One was very needy of attention and was always rubbing her head on me or giving me a bath. She loved to be held and petted. The other was the exact opposite. The least attention you showed her, the better she liked it.

Upon trying to continue reading further on each article, I was unable to do so for some unknown reason.

    1. Thank you for your comment. If you have owned cats, you know that they have a great personality and are independent. However, they need our love and understanding. In the scheme we reward ourselves with an unconditional love.

  8. For me cats stress are very minimal, I don’t own any but I have lived with them for a while.

The thing I don’t like is the furs or hairs getting in my mouth, it kinds of irritates me.

When I lived in a house that hosts 3 cats I could notice they are very tidy and gentle animals, they do not drop excrement every where, only on corners where you can easily clean.

They do go out for days though without any signs of them and this gives my aunt lots of worries and stress.

She has to bath them too, I don’t think this stresses her because she seemed to enjoy it.

On occasion they do topple over our trash or our neighbors trash though.

    1. Thank you for your comment. If they are taken care of cats can get rid of the hair from the mouth lol. You must brush them from time to time. Usually the cats do not like the bath, they are stressed. But there are cat breeds that love water. For example Turkish Van

  9. Thank you so much for providing such a beautiful information. We often do not understand the gesture of a cat.So often we do injustice to them.We do not want to understand anything that a cat wants or wants to eat.We do not give importance to the cat’s illness.Because of which the cat is very distressed.I think many of you will find out about cats being sought after reading this article.

So thank you again for giving me such a wonderful article.

    1. Thank you for your comment. It is a certain code of cat communication. It is not too difficult to learn to understand and to respect she’s needs and desires. Currently I have 18 cats and they are not stressed at all.

  10. Hello, I must say that this article is very helpful and informative. I am a big fan of cats, I even have two mature cats who are my best friends. I wanted to read your article but somehow it won’t open it, I can read just a couple of sentences. Can you fix that, please?

    1. Thank you for your comment. I don’t know what happened, why the article doesn’t open. Have you tried another browser? I have some problems with my browser too. Hope it resolves soon.

  11. Recently, there has been a new cat lingering in the neighborhood and me being me, I just fed the poor thing until my kitty started noticing. She got curious about the feeding bowl sitting on the porch and when she sensed the other feral cat, I could tell she was all stressed out already because she has been rubbing all over me and my shoes for the past week. We are thinking of adopting the fella outside – he seems like a cat who deserves a good home – but we’ll have to give our princess kitty some time to adjust before doing any drastic changes.

    1. Thank you for your comment. God bless you if you adopt the cat outside. With patience you can resolve to be friends the two cats. In the end it will be good for the cat in the house as she will have a pleasant company. I wish you luck.
